“Homeopathy”, is the practice of alternative and complementary medicine, a method based on certain laws and principles. (*)

The term Homeopathy originates from the combination of two Greek words "Homoios" (Similar) and "Pathos" (Disease). The basic theory is, that “like” is cured by “like” (similia similibus curentur)—diseases can be treated by natural substances which increases the signs and symptoms of the disease in healthy individuals.

One of the two other principles of homeopathy is that the homoeopathic medicines are administered in very low dose preparations and the second is the single remedy principle, which means only one homeopathic remedy is given at any one time.

Although many people are mistaken to think this is only a herbal treatment. Homeopathic remedies are also made from other natural substances such as plants, trees, minerals, etc.

The preparation of the remedies, involves serial dilution, to the extent that no molecules of the original substance remains, this is caried out through vigorous shaking between dilutions (potentisation).

In what is often termed “classical” homoeopathy, every patient is considered unique. The remedy has been selected according to the patient’s history and the symptoms and preference is made for the remedy to be effective at the lowest dose and dilution available.

The mode of action of homeopathic remedies cannot be compared with that of known herbal or chemical synthetic drugs. Unlike chemical drugs, homeopatic remedies do not contain active molecules and toxicity is not observed.
